Sustainability

In the field of Vector Control we have a focus on supporting and developing tools for vector-borne disease management, which are not only highly effective but which are consistent with, or contribute to, sustainable development goals.

Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate policy, geared to long-term success and innovative solutions. This commitment is also demonstrated by the company’s participation in numerous initiatives and projects around the world.

Responsible Care

Bayer has long practiced the concept of Responsible Care, guided by the principles of the voluntary Responsible Care initiative of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry since 1994 and by the Responsible Care Global Charter, which was last revised in 2006.

Some examples of our initiatives in Vector Control include:
  • High concentration formulations such as K-Othrine® WG and Ficam® which have reduced transport weight and packaging needs – reducing overall transport footprint compared to less concentrated, bulkier products
  • FFAST formulation technology in our space spray formulations; reducing the reliance on oil-based diluents
  • LifeNet® – new bednet technology with superior wash resistance and physical strength – translating to a net with a longer effective life; not only protecting against malaria for longer but also reducing the need for net re-distributions
  • Investment into the regulatory defence of Ficam®, an established compound which now represents a significant insecticide resistance management tool which is helping to maintain the effectiveness of pyrethroid chemistry.
