Bayer supports World Malaria Day activities in Ghana

Bayer sponsored the Ghana National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) official press briefing on the 24th of April ahead of the annual World Malaria Day commemoration activities. This years’ activities were centred around Sunyani, a town about 400km north west of the capital Accra in the Brong-Ahafo Region. The press briefing was attended by about 50 journalists from 38 different Radio, TV and Print Media organisations such as regional FM stations, TV Africa, TV3 (GBC), The Ghanaian Observer and The Enquirer.

In addition to the members of the press, the meeting was attended by about 75 people from the National and regional health departments. The Chief Health Educator from the Regional Health Directorate, Mr WS Supiimeh, gave the opening address, followed by an update by the NMCP Principal Entomologist Mrs Aba Baffoe-Wilmot. Further presentations were given by the Program Officer, and the Regional President of the Ghana
Independent Broadcasters Association. Bayer was represented by Adjo Mfodwo and Sandra Zunu; and Bayer’s credentials in Vector Control, its commitment to sustainable partnerships and its continued investment in the fight against malaria were reaffirmed in front of the attendees by Ms Mfodwo.
The NMCP emphasised the importance of educating the public on the importance of participating in the current national “Net-hanging” Campaign.
Following the press briefing; on World Malaria Day itself an event was held which began with a procession of health workers and community members. A local community leader welcomed all guests and opened proceedings. Several speeches were then delivered to the crowd of about 250 people by the Acting Regional Director for Health, Mr Imoro Mahama and representatives from the NMCP; WHO and USAID/PMI.
