URC and the Myanmar Ministry of Health agreed to tackle malaria

URC or University Research Co., LLC is a global company improving the quality of health care, social services, and health education by partnering with non-profit organizations all over the world.
Recently URC and the Myanmar (Burma) Ministry of Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding to address malaria. The agreement should enable the realization of the USAID CAP-Malaria project (Control and Prevention of Malaria) which is being currently implemented in the country by URC in collaboration with the NGO ‘Save the Children’. According to the WHO World Malaria report 2012, Myanmar has one of the highest malaria burdens in the South East Asia (the second most affected region in the world), just after India and Indonesia.

The CAP-Malaria project aims first of all to restrain the spread of the highly drug-resistant malaria form persistent in Myanmar. The disease is endemic in 80% of rural areas of the country. In order to improve malaria control the project focuses on the local communities’ engagement through education, diagnostic tests usage trainings, etc. The project also ensures the distribution long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), as one of the most efficient malaria prevention tools, to the local communities and the companies employing large numbers of migrant workers.
